As I drove along the road through a bright green valley, dotted with little ponds near Okotoks on the way to Melissa and Dave's house I was thinking how this didn't look very much like southern Alberta at all.
In the late afternoon sun and still wet from the rain it felt more like a scene from an Irish fairy tale (one of the nice ones). I got more and more excited to photograph their engagement session here as I got closer and continued to not see the normal flat prairie landscape I was somewhat expecting.
I met Melissa not too long ago and her fiancé Dave wasn't able to make our initial meeting so on top of the amazing and unexpected scenery I got to meet Dave and two of their three kids for the first time.
Alex and Neveah, the kids, followed us around their property and acted as my assistants (don't tell the labour board) holding my camera while I climbed a tree and showing me the best way to climb through fences.
We had a great time and I can't wait to have them show me more spots south of Calgary that I never knew existed at their wedding at the Red Deer Lake community hall in July!
Here are a few of my favourites from Melissa and Dave's engagement session in their little slice of heaven.
