Wedding Photography FAQ

What is the process for wedding photography and how do we get started?

The first step is to contact me, so I know when and where you're getting married! I will send you back some information on my wedding photography pricing and we'll set up a meeting so I can find out all the important details so I can capture your perfect day!

How much photography time do I need?

While this is different for every wedding and every couple there are some basic guidelines based on what type of wedding you are having. If you are having a very simple elopement you might be able to get all the photos you'd like to have in under four hours, but for the most part four hours is the most basic amount of photography time. That is why my pricing starts with four hours in mind. This can range all the way up to a 12 hour day or even multiple days for certain wedding celebrations.

Are you a professional wedding photographer?

Yes, I have worked as a photographer my whole adult life. After graduating from photojournalism at SAIT I worked as a photojournalist for the Banff Crag & Canyon newspaper. I then worked for a portrait company while I got Brendan Nogue Photography up and running. I have worked as a wedding and business photographer full-time ever since and I love it!

What types of photos will you take?

I try to take images that encompass the story of the entire day! While my main focus is on getting you stunning portraits that you will want to hang as art on your walls and candid moments that reveal the emotions of the day. I also cover details shots of all the little things you put so much thought in to, formal family portraits and the images of the planned games and activities during the day.

What is your photography style?

My photography style is all about the couple. The way I choose to tell the story of your wedding day comes from getting to know you as best I can before the wedding day and finding out what is most important to you, how you plan to use your finished photos and figuring out how best we work together. I try to use every skill and tool available to me to capture all the moments that tell the story of your wedding day. Some of these tools were developed through years of experience is both professional photojournalism and portraiture. I try to capture moments and document the story of your wedding day in a photojournalistic style and combine that with colourful, inspiring and creative images.

How much will my wedding photography cost?

My prices start at $2679 for four hours of photography coverage with a USB with hundreds of finished images. Many couples invest between $3500 and $4300 for a full-day wedding with finished images. There will be no hidden fees on top of what we agree upon. To properly get an idea of how much photography coverage time you would like for your wedding day and what types of finished products you will most appreciate for your images I always like to have a meeting and discuss all the details of your wedding day. Feel free to contact me to get more details on my wedding photography pricing including some specially designed collection that present a major savings when packaged together. All of my wedding packages come with a complimentary engagement session and if you aren't completely over-the-moon with how that session went I will refund your wedding deposit. Because I know we'll have so much fun together! (See more on this in the next question)

Do I need an engagement session?

Yes and no, I provide a free engagement session along with everyone of my weddings because I think it's a great way for us to get to know each other before we are together for most of the day on one of the most important days of your life. It gives you a chance to see how I work to and give me some feedback on what your favourite photos were. The session is truly free meaning it can't be exchanged for something else, but if you really don't want to do the session before your wedding day that is fine as well. If you'd like more information you can check out my blog on this subject. To ease any fears you may have about pricing or doing the engagement session I offer a complete money back guarantee. I am so sure that you will love the photos and have a great time taking them that if you aren't satisfied I will refund your money!

Do we get the digital files of our wedding and engagement images?

Yes, you can absolutely get the finished digital files! Many of my packages include a full USB of finished digital images that you can use as you wish. I offer pre-made and custom packages with and without digital files. If you want to be able to print and post your photos whenever and wherever I am happy to help! There will be no expensive hidden fees or sales to get your images!

For your engagement photos I include the digital images as part of the included free service to help us get better acquainted and for you to get a better feel for my photography style, and what are your favourite images.

What will be the finished product?

That is totally up to you! I offer everything from different sized digital images, to beautiful wall mounted art prints to hand crafted albums that can be modern or classic. It is all about how you would like to experience your finished images once it is all said and done.

Can I see all the photos from a wedding?

Yes, if you contact me I'd be happy to set you up with one of the private galleries from one of my past weddings. I don't make them public as I take my clients privacy seriously and I always like to make sure it is okay with them before sharing their images. If you'd like to see a smaller set of images from a wedding day, but that go through the whole day check out my blog. There are tons of different weddings there with many images that tell the story from one particular wedding.

Do you do elopements?

Yes, I do, but there are some different rules that apply as opposed to a regular full-day wedding so please contact me for pricing and booking details.

Do you do destination weddings?

Absolutely! I would love to talk to you about your destination wedding anywhere in the world! Including people coming from other parts of the world to use the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Alberta as the backdrop for their destination wedding. I'd love to talk to you and discuss what you have in mind.

I'm not photogenic will I still get wedding photos that I love?

Yes! Nobody thinks they are photogenic, but don't worry, you are! I promise! Many people think they hate having their picture taken, but by the time we get to know each other a little, pick the right spot to do photos and talk a little about the process people always find it a lot easier than they think and they even have fun!

Do you have a second photographer?

Yes! My partner Adele and I are both professional, full-time wedding photographers in Calgary. She operates under the name Photos by Adele. We work most of our weddings together and we love it! We have tons of experience together and can offer you the flexibility of a photography team without the cost because we are two separate companies! If Adele isn't available I work with several other wedding photography professionals. All photographers who shoot their own weddings and fit with my visual and personal style.

Why would I choose Brendan Nogue Photography as my wedding photographer?

I think if I am the right wedding photographer for you then you will love my big picture approach. I believe that it is extremely important that you get beautiful photos that you will love forever. In order to get you those photos I take a wholistic approach to making sure all parts of your experience are fantastic. From the first meeting, to the wedding day and all the way to getting your final USB or album I want you to feel respected, comfortable and relaxed. I want you to have fun on your wedding day. I will do whatever I can to make the best images I can and a huge part of that is making sure you are taken care of. You won't like even the best photos if it only brings back memories of uncomfortable positions, awkward conversation and a rude photographer who is only out to get photos for their portfolio. It is also my big picture approach in that I want you to have pictures that you can print BIG and hang on your walls. I want it to be not only beautiful because it reminds you of such an amazing day, but also as a piece of art that anyone could enjoy.
